Who will take the title this year?

What 'People' are saying: 23 years of Sexiest Man Alive

Though I can’t say for certain, the GGP is pretty sure that People mag is getting ready to reveal their pick for 2009’s Sexiest Man Alive next week. I know it seems like just yesterday that 2008’s top hunk Hugh Jackman was proudly accepting the honour, but such is the fickle nature of sex status. One day you’re the hottest guy on the planet, the next you’re, well, Nick Nolte.

On Monday, I’ll dish on just who does and doesn’t deserve the “Sexiest” title, but for now, let’s sit back, relax and prepare to swoon (or scoff) at 23 years of babe-dom.

1985: Back when People first began anointing the year’s biggest beef cake, Mel Gibson was still a pretty sexy guy. The baby blues, the rugged charm, the sexy Aussie accent (that wasn’t yet famous for reportedly slinging anti-Semitic slurs). Safe to say Mad Mel’s “Sexiest” days are behind him.

1986: For year two, People tapped small screen hunk Mark Harmon. Who? At the time, the NCIS actor starred in two mega-shows, St. Elsewhere and Moonlighting. Think of him as the Patrick Dempsey of the ‘80s. (Because the real Patrick Dempsey of that decade was too busy playing an uber-nerd in Can’t Buy Me Love).

1987: Another TV dude earned the honour this year. Today, you probably know Harry Hamlin as Mr. Lisa Rinna, but back then he was a sexy legal eagle on L.A. Law.

1988: At last! Some serious eye candy. JFK Jr. was the pinnacle of sex appeal – the bad boy of America’s royal family with charm to spare and a face that looks like it was chiseled by Michelangelo himself.

George Clooney is pretty sexy.

Johnny Depp all the way!!!! Very Sexy!!!

Johnny Depp without a doubt!

Gossipy Gal Pal..you made a faux pas! Mark Harmon did not star in Moonlighting. That was Bruce Willis(when he had a full head of hair)before he became an action star.

Definitely, Johnny Depp tops my list right from day 1. He's one to drool over!

Robert Pattinson

ME!!

David Caruso really gets to me. love that voice.

Why is John Cusack continuously over-looked. He is some hot! He is not usually a public spectacle, so I find him mysterious in the most charming way. Intelligence, humility, awesome sense of humour, and so gorgeous! Come on, people!

Gerard Butler

JOHNNY DEPP!!!! he deserves to win it twice, and he still looks amazing...at 46!!!

Johnny Depp for sure!!!

Ryan Reynolds..hubba hubba! And he can make you laugh!!

Heath Ledger didn't make it to the top. Sigh. soo, Johnny Depp and George Clooney.

Ryan Rynolds or Hugh Jackman
Both hotttttttttt

Gerald Bulter

Taylor LAutner no duuuuu have u seen his abs

Rob Lowe

Carlo Rota

i bet it will be robert pattinson (rather unfortunate in my opinion) but i'm voting for matt damon!!! (who is NOT pig like, and also happens to be 5"10-which is NOT short)

Johnny Depp

definitely, Gerard Butler

I vote for McDreamy and McSteamy - Patrick Dempsey and Eric Dane. I'd be the filling in that sandwich anyday!

I am but I am trying to keep it a secret.

Michael Weatherly. He's the reason I started watching NCIS a few years ago. He was also a hottie as "Logan" on Dark Angel way back in the day...

I think you took the whole tongue in cheek comment by Sean Connery completely out of context - it was a joke - treat it as such and stop harping on about it. His wife is a very strong minded, talented Artist and everyone knows she wouldn't tolerate that for a minute. Anyway - Johnny Depp gets my vote as usual....

Hey Mojo,

Sorry to say you're wrong re. Sean Connery. Here is a clip from a Barbara Walters interview. If that's a joke, then I'm a nuclear physicist. I'm with you on Johnny Depp, though. Thanks for reading. GGP
